Achol Kuir is a South Sudanese refugee living in Nyumanzi refugee settlement in Uganda. Her household is one of 400 in the settlement that recently received a fuel-efficient stove from a CLWR-supported project. The stoves have many benefits. They use four times less firewood than the traditional stoves, thereby lessening the risk of deforestation. The stoves are smoke free, lowering the risk of respiratory smoke associated complications from cooking. And, as an added bonus, the stoves are known to have reduced the number of burns suffered during cooking and extended the life of pots.
