Richard Tabei is the chairperson of the Alendro beekeeping group, along with 29 other Ugandan young adults in Nyumanzi, Uganda. Alendro means 'we want,' which captures the group's vision for the future: to expand their business and share the skills they've learned with others in the community. Currently the group has 12 beehives and they would like to add more. "We need to expand the knowledge to others—it's not only for us to know the knowledge," says chairperson Richard Tabei. Formed in 2015, the group carefully selected the location for the hives on land they alread owned: a small treed area near a stream so the bees can access water. "We have land—this is our land," he says. "Even the climate can favour us."
