Monyror Bior is a refugee. Again. As a child, he fled to Kenya after losing his family and home in Sudan. As a young man, he returned to South Sudan, optimistic and looking for opportunity. But his hopes were dashed when violence swept through the country once again and he was forced to flee, this time to Uganda. There, he found his opportunity. The refugee settlement where Monyror now lives lacked reliable electricity. He saw how people struggled to charge their phones, desperate to call family back in South Sudan to make sure they were okay.

He and three friends pitched a phone-charging business to The Lutheran World Federation. They were awarded a grant to buy chargers, solar panels and a generator. They also trained in business management, learning skills that thave helped them launch a thriving company. Monyror is using his earnings to buy food and school supplies for his siblings and save for the future. Monyror had the strength in him. He just needed a guide to help him develop to his full potential. "We wanted to try and make a better life for ourselves. LWF has given me this opportunity—a new start."
