CLWR assists the Augusta Victoria Hospital, which is administered by the Lutheran World Federation, in meeting its mandate to provide medical service to those living in East Jerusalem, the West Bank, and Gaza. AVH primarily serves the Palestinian population but offers care to all regardless of creed, religion, race, nationality, gender or ability to pay. Approximately 20% of patients are refugees. It provides many specialized services that are not easily accessible or that are unavailable in other hospitals in the occupied Palestinian Territories.
For the 3.7 million people living in the West Bank and Gaza, AVH is the only point of access for radiation oncology and pediatric dialysis services. The hospital has 165 beds and employs a staff of 220. In an average month, it admits about 250 patients and sees more than 350 patients through its outpatient care programs and another 1,100 through off-site rural clinics.
